I still do not know the right price for Penci.ly

I want Penci.ly to be affordable, while finding a way to cover the ongoing cost of keeping it available.

A Belief That Resists a Pricing Model

I do not want Penci.ly to become another subscription that someone likes but cannot justify paying for. I believe useful creations and services should be available to people with very different budgets.

That belief is straightforward until I try to turn it into a pricing model.

A web application has ongoing costs. Files need storage, data needs a backend, and the service needs maintenance. Even when an individual action costs very little, the total changes as more people use the product.

There is also the work after a feature is finished: fixing issues, improving the experience, and making sure the thing people depend on continues to function.

Where the Free Experience Ends

I am trying to find a price that respects both sides. I want someone with a small budget to get real value from Penci.ly. I also want to be able to keep offering it.

One question I keep returning to is what a free user should be able to accomplish. I would like the answer to be a complete, useful piece of work. The free experience should let someone understand why they would want the product in their life.

I am less certain about where the paid boundary belongs. More storage, heavier use, and additional capabilities are possibilities, but I do not want every useful action to become a reason to charge.

I do not have a final answer yet. Affordability is part of what I want to build, and sustainability is what would allow that commitment to last.
